Vision of the CYM
To create a sustainable youth ministry by empowering and equipping young people in the Church to serve and lead by example to the believers, and to assist in the call to show compassion to God’s creation.
Goals of the CYM:
The CYM as service organisation of the Congregational Ministries (CM) in the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa aims to form the church youth to become spiritual adult members of the body of Christ, who are competent in the doctrine, active in the mission, service and sacrifice.
In order to achieve this goal every member of the ministry aims to:
• Live in compliance with the will of God according to the Holy Scripture;
• Be a true witness for Christ and never to be ashamed of the gospel of Christ;
• Go out into the practical life and tell the world that Christ can and will liberate her from sin, suffering and oppression;
• Remain faithful to the doctrine of the URCSA which every member must confess and regularly attend the gatherings of the church, the church services and prayer meetings;
• Regularly attend the meetings of the organisation and faithfully attend to the responsibilities and activities that arise from his/her membership of the CYM;
• Preserve and conserve the environment, which is God’s creation
Challenges faced by the CYM (Youth)
• Mental wellness (depression and anxiety amongst young people)
• Gender based violence against women and children and vulnerable groups of people
• Gender identity and gender justices
• Poverty associated with school dropout and youth unemployment
• Substance abuse (alcohol and drugs)
Levy and Contributions
Levies are payable on an annual basis to the Presbytery, Regional Fund & Central Executive by 31 March of the year.
